#TheBlackDog

Hey you!

So I managed to get a full 8 AND A HALF HOURS SLEEP LAST NIGHT (wow, it’s like Christmas come early!!) so I feel refreshed and ready for whatever life is going to throw my way today (but not too much, I’m fragile)… How has your day been so far?

Today’s blog post is about ‘The Black Dog’. I touched upon him recently and have found the perfect link to explain better than I ever could have, what is meant by this phrase. Many of you may have heard of the metaphor and luckily, there are simple steps that can be taken to bring your black dog to heel.

Once you have watched it, come back to this post!!

Living with the black dog can be difficult, right? But just for a few seconds, I want you to imagine a world where the black dog is your friend. Like a pet, if you struggle, the easiest option would be giving him up, taking him to a pound or a shelter, dumping him like he never existed… but this doesn’t have to happen, you can learn to accept your black dog. Start by eliminating reasons for the black dog to make you feel sad. If you want to go out with your friends, tell the black dog that you will do this. If you want to go to an event, tell the black dog he can come but he has to be quiet today. If you try to accept rather than eliminate, the black dog doesn’t have to make things as hard for you. Give him a name, give him an identity, don’t let him act as a heavy weight on your shoulders and soon enough, you’ll see that you can live with him.

I hope this has helped even if only a little… don’t forget to be brave and take charge of your black dog! Until next time…
