review 1: The story hues closely to the formula of a young innocent girl, a rich older man and a crisis in the relationship. The young lady is in Naples, Italy researching the organized crime syndicates. She becomes involved with the gentleman and in order to be together she must become an initiate in The Mysteries. So as not to spoil the story, I'll simply say that there is conflict. Having finished the book, I still can't figure out the Why behind the Mysteries and what they do for the individual. There is lots of sex, some meaningful and some used to brutalize. It has a sortakindamaybe happy ending. I'm not sure if I should feel good about it or not. I am revolted by the final two initiations. There is nothing remotely acceptable about it.
