review 1: Loved it! There's a lot to be learned from Salazar, not only from his current training methods and teaching, but from his past mistakes. Before I used to envy people who had the balls to devote themselves solely to running. It's something I wanted to be able to do, to let it completely consume my life the way it did for Salazar, for fictional character Quenton Cassidy. I just have too many other pursuits I also want to follow in life to let go of everything that doesn't have to do with running. And fortunately for me, Salazar showed his readers that in hindsight, the unbalance and dominant role running took in his life was ultimately unhealthy. I'm glad I learned that lesson from him rather than making the mistake myself and learning the hard way. Definitely one I want to ... morereread, multiple times. I want to keep soaking in the various lessons Salazar has to teach :) Great autobiography.
review 2: I've nearly finished this book and have been more absorbed in it than I expected. This is a book about a runner, not about running. Salazar is good at the art of self-reflection and reveals much more than the media-contrived images of him have allowed. His struggles, his faith, his family, and his relentless drive fed his growth from a young phenom to a man at home in his current life. An enjoyable, and even occasionally challenging, read! less
