review 1: A fun, interesting retelling of the classic Tarzan story. The plot is not without its hard-to-swallow points, but overall, this story goes down easily, and while it is fairly light reading, it also provides a few thought-provoking moments. Darra (aka Jane) and Cade (aka Tarzan) were likeable, and I particularly appreciated the three-dimensional portrayal of the adults in the story. Definitely worth reading, especially for fans of Tarzan in particular or feral-children stories (although Cade is not entirely feral) in general.
review 2: Actual rating: 3.5 stars. A modern retelling of Tarzan and the familiar literary and film theme "wild boy meets the civilized world". Other than Tarzan (which Mallory thanks in her acknowledgements - I love that), this story
... morewas constantly reminding me of the old Brendan Frasier movie, Encino Man, and the classic movie, Edward Scissorhands. Actually, this book pretty much is Edward Scissorhands with a wild boy instead of a Frankensteinian emo teddy bear. While camping with her boyfriend in the middle of a national forest, Dara is aware of someone watching her in the woods. When they are attacked by a bear, this someone saves her (and her boyfriend's) life, putting his own life in jeopardy. To save his life, Dara and her boyfriend rush this someone (Cade) to the hospital and change his life forever. Cade and Dara slowly fall in love with each other while he learns about the civilized world. Of course, this story is big news in the media-soaked world in which we live. Between that and the police (Dara's dad is the chief) trying to find out the truth about Cade, Cade's new life is complicated and uncomfortable. All he wants to do is go back home. In the woods. With Dara. Aside from Dara's relationship with her boyfriend (which is not fleshed out very well) and all the drama with the media (which is strung out much too long), this was an interesting story with characters I cared about - teens will, too. As for Gateway, it should def be considered. Thanks to Edelweiss for the ARC! less

Overall enjoyed the book. But I felt it was lacking something.
