review 1: With so many mixed reviews, how will you know if you will like this book or not? The best indicator, in my opinion, is if you liked In Living Color or Head Case. Both of those shows were patently absurd, and that's what Alexandra Wentworth is about. If you are looking for a true memoir, or a punch line that is packaged and presented to you, look elsewhere. Alexandra isn't about that. Her comedy isn't in one-liners, it's situational. Yes, she comes from privilege, but this woman is such an astute observer of human subcultures- including her own, that her break was In Living Color. If you think she's taking her own life seriously in this memoir, change your tone while reading. This is a woman who knows how to laugh at herself, and if you aren't the type of person who can do... more that as well, it may be hard to hear her hilarious voice come through in this book. That said, I loved this book.
review 2: This type of self-indulgent pap will appeal to those who loved Elizabeth Gilbert's equally narcissistic Caucasian rich girl (who considers herself middle class, of course, because she's so earthy and humble)Eat, Pray, Love. Life is such a challenge when your rich boyfriend proposes in a castle in Ireland--that he rented out for the two of you, and you have to get your head straight by renting a Hollywood mogul's house to contemplate what to do, yet all you really want to do is be back on the East Coast--and simultaneously be loved by all for being a movie star. Life is too short for readers to devote brain cells to this tripe. less
