I am admittedly a tough reviewer. The only books that I give five stars to are ones that are I deem virtually perfect, this perfection is highly personal and based solely on how I related to the story. So the fact that I am giving this novel three (but really three and half) stars doesn’t mean it’s not decent. I think that while I read all kinds of books (especially any in the romance genre), every once and a while I just can’t relate to a character and this was one of those circumstances. There were times when I was rolling my eyes at the drama the main female character, Hope was evoking. However, very rarely are male characters so steadfast in their commitment, as Mason is in this book. And I loved him for it! And because of Mason, I think Hope was a better character and overall the book was satisfactory.
This one started off really good. The relationship had good build up and I enjoyed the relationship between Mason and his mother. I like the alternating viewpoints. But it feels like the author wasn't quite sure how to end the book. It seems like after Mason's mom met Hope, the ending was rushed. I know there is a novella that explains the time between the end and the epilogue. But it was more the last 10% of the book that seemed disorganized. I thought the epilogue was a nice touch.
I read this series a while ago and loved it! Just realized there's going to be a book 4. YAY!
