review 1: Are American schools really like that? Each time I read a book featuring teens and set in high schools I ask myself the same question: are the students in American schools really like this? Is there really a segregation where every single person is labeled and put into a category: jocks, cheerleaders, nerds, gay, slut, weirdos... even if it isn't true? Do people actually believe rumors started by a known womanizer about a straight A student? (that's not the case in this book, but it's often the case in those I read).Consequently, I don't know what to think of this book: is it actually realistic or completely exaggerated? The main character, Hope (good work on the irony here), despite all her (many) problems, appears to be the sanest and less bitchiest girl in the book. The... morere's a problem here. Also, not all the girls between the age of 15 and 18 spend there whole time obsessing over boys, looking for love, a kiss or catching the most popular guy. I kind of have a problem with thi depiction of teenagers. (I'm not even starting with how the boys, (not men, boys) were shown: some are actually nice even if the play football)Despite my slight problem with how the author showed teenagers, I actually did like this book. The romance wasn't too fast, despite a love-at-first-sight moment and she's-different-than-all-the-girls-I've-known comments. I loved how the convesations between the different characters just seemed to flow. Most of the were likeable. Hope... I think the author did a really good job describing her emotions and her "addiction". Mason... I want one too (totally agree with Annie on this one)So, yeah, 4 stars and waiting for what McIntyre will write next.
review 2: I am so glad I stumbled upon this read! This is the first book that I have read that involves so much emotion and intensity. Hope Love has had a lot of bad things happen in her life like loosing her parents and being molested, that makes her resort to cutting has an outlet. Mason Patel has had to deal with the death of his father and the constant moving around with his mother and brother. Things change when Mason moves in on Hope! They both learn to open up and love again. It's not an easy road for these two. What should have been a simple love story turned into one where they show that a relationship is hard work and you should never give up. They are faced with challenges, such as him finding out about her cutting and his temper and the threat of him moving, but they always find their way to stick through it! I loved this book! I both laughed and cried! It's like you go through their emotions with them :) less

I am admittedly a tough reviewer. The only books that I give five stars to are ones that are I deem virtually perfect, this perfection is highly personal and based solely on how I related to the story. So the fact that I am giving this novel three (but really three and half) stars doesn’t mean it’s not decent. I think that while I read all kinds of books (especially any in the romance genre), every once and a while I just can’t relate to a character and this was one of those circumstances. There were times when I was rolling my eyes at the drama the main female character, Hope was evoking. However, very rarely are male characters so steadfast in their commitment, as Mason is in this book. And I loved him for it! And because of Mason, I think Hope was a better character and overall the book was satisfactory.

This one started off really good. The relationship had good build up and I enjoyed the relationship between Mason and his mother. I like the alternating viewpoints. But it feels like the author wasn't quite sure how to end the book. It seems like after Mason's mom met Hope, the ending was rushed. I know there is a novella that explains the time between the end and the epilogue. But it was more the last 10% of the book that seemed disorganized. I thought the epilogue was a nice touch.
