This book started off really well. The first 25% I enjoyed, in spite of the laborious descriptions of how hard it is to be a mom of two kids. I got very tired of the kid emphasis, but I found the writing engaging and I liked the relationship between the twins. The book went downhill quickly from there. Any woman who would give away the entirety of her and her husband's life savings for basically no reason is an irresponsible jerk. Especially since she's not even working. My dislike for Kate increased tremendously at that point. And Vi, also not likeable. Annoying, selfish. When Kate sleeps with her friend and gets pregnant it didn't ring true even remotely. She's friends with this guy for years, she has two kids, has a good husband who supports her and she hops in bed with her friend? No. No, no, no. She's a jerk.
This story jumps around a lot from past to present, which can be kind of confusing, but I still liked it quite a lot....until the last 100 pages or so. I was really disappointed with Kate's poor judgment near the end. This could have easily been a 5 star book for me if things had happened a little differently. Sadly, it ended with way too many loose ends and a plot twist that I just didn't like. I did have a hard time putting it down though, so I'd definitely like to try more of this author's work.
I really enjoyed this book. Could barely put it down!! Helps if you have a close sibling.
