This was a very different work for Mr. Baldacci, and an engaging story. The story centers around a miracle that happened to the main character, and the story repeatedly calls it a miracle. However, the entire book, while centered around this miracle, never includes a reference to God. In fact there are scenes where the main character appears to be praying, but he is praying to his dead wife. This studious avoidance of any mention of God, or belief in God struck me as very strange.
