Donalyn Miller does a wonderful job of explaining her successful techniques for pulling students into the joys of reading. With authentic examples and strategies she shows us that even the most reluctant struggling readers can be turned around. The prominent message in her book is that if students can have opportunities to read self-selected books of interest, they will be more motivated to succeed as readers. All of the points she discusses hit home with me. The best way to motivate is through teaching showing and sharing my own enthusiasm for reading. I found this book inspiring as a teacher, and as a lover of reading.

This book was recommended to me by Beth Stewart, a really smart English teacher I have admired for a long time. It has changed my reading life- by reminding how much I have always loved to simply read. Just take the time to read every day. That is easy to forget is a world of flying texts and swirling FB images - all of which I enjoy. But, the pleasure of reading is quiet and there for you any time you decide to enjoy it.
