review 1: I am a parent of 4 girls who has been trying to instill the love of reading in them. I am only half way through and LOVE this book and highly recommend it to everyone! It has made realize that even as a parent who loves to do nothing but shove my nose into a book, I need to look at each child's interests, personalities etc. I am now changing my "tune" and let them choose their own books with recommendations and not say no to any book that they decide to take out. It's all about getting them to read right?!

Donalyn Miller does a wonderful job of explaining her successful techniques for pulling students into the joys of reading. With authentic examples and strategies she shows us that even the most reluctant struggling readers can be turned around. The prominent message in her book is that if students can have opportunities to read self-selected books of interest, they will be more motivated to succeed as readers. All of the points she discusses hit home with me. The best way to motivate is through teaching showing and sharing my own enthusiasm for reading. I found this book inspiring as a teacher, and as a lover of reading.

This book was recommended to me by Beth Stewart, a really smart English teacher I have admired for a long time. It has changed my reading life- by reminding how much I have always loved to simply read. Just take the time to read every day. That is easy to forget is a world of flying texts and swirling FB images - all of which I enjoy. But, the pleasure of reading is quiet and there for you any time you decide to enjoy it.
