It's crazy to think that there are still places in the world today that force young girls to marry older men that they don't even know. I can't even fathom why anyone thinks this is a good idea. The courage of this young girl is amazing and admirable. I'm so happy she got out of the horrible situation she was forced into by her father. She is doing great things by sharing her story. The book itself was average but the message is an important one to share.

I believe the Yemen culture affected Nujood's story most. Nujood Ali is married off at age 10 to a cruel husband. Her father marries her off because he and his family need money and he can't keep a regular job for very long. After several months of her husband's abuse, Nujood decides to take her problems to court and get a divorce. She is the first to do something like this in her community. Nujood has inspired so many girls married under the legal age.

If you read this book as a memoir, you'll be disappointed. This book was written to raise awareness.
