This story is centered around Pete Reed. Part of the youngest brothers that make up the twins in the family. He was sent to prison for two years after hanging around with the wrong crowd, along with his twin Sam, when they were trying to make extra money for their older brother's cancer treatment. Pete got caught, Sam didn't. They used to be as close as twins can be, but guilt and anger separated them during Pete's time away. All five of the brothers are usually very close, so this definitely causes some upset in the family. As Pete is leaving prison, he is offered a shorter probation, if he decides to be a part of a special camp for a week. The camp caters to disabled and unfortunate kids and also has other helpers, that include older kids on the wrong track, those from detention centers who all could use Pete's help. Pete may look like a hard pass, with all his tattoos and piercings, but he's got a heart of gold. Plus since his older brother Lucus has been deaf since 13, he knows sign language. They know he can be a real asset to all the camp members, if he chooses to.(Will finish review soon)
Somehow this book got into my skin slowly. It was funny, and so sweet and heartwarming (?) We got to know a mature part of Pete, and it teaches you that sometime you gotta take bad decision in order to learn the lessons of life, and that those lessons can make us go to a even better place. What I loved from Reagan is that she suffered something that I've been lucky I've never experienced. For sure I don't know how it feels (and I'm not asking, btw) but I admire the strength she has to get out of that nightmare. It inspired me. The only thing I didn't like is that I don't think that getting out of that nightmare would be that easy. But the rest of the book was beautiful for me ;)
I'm in love again! Oh, Pete! Read this series!
