To be fair, this style of book isn't my usual genre. But sometimes I like to take a step away from spy thrillers and suspense novels for something totally different. And often that is a humorous narrative about creatures/pets.For 277 pages, I expected more narrative and plot development. Instead, this book is one-third history of Spencer (IA) and surrounds; one-third stuff about people and their personal lives; and one-third short tales about Dewey. Even the tales became so redundant that I had to force myself to finish it.All in all, the narrative style was just flat for me. It wasn't strong enough to become emotionally engaged with either a human or the cat.

This was so poorly written I felt like I was wading through pure word mud. While the stories were certainly adorable, I think that this could easily have been a much smaller book and a better read because of it. Poor Myron had such a lovely experience and I'm happy that she's spreading all the positivity of it, but why in the most brutally boring and repetitious way imaginable?I wish I had taken a friend's advice and read the chapter book she wrote for older children instead of this one, and maybe I will someday, but I need distance first!
