The Jinni Wars
review 1: Zayele, desperate to escape an impending arranged marriage with Prince Kamal of Baghdad, forces a wish upon Najwa, a Jinni spy. Najwais forced to take Zayele’s place while Zayele finds herself stuck in the kingdom of the Jin trying to pass as Najwa. Najwa uses her time in the palace to spy on the humans but her magic is limited by the wish. Each young woman discovers hidden strengths, layers of secrets and the promise of romance as they desperately try to reverse the wish. This is the first book of the Jinni Wars series. Readers will find enough excitement and intrigue to make up for some uneven pacing. Recommended for readers Grade 7 and up.
review 2: Another book that I was excited to read. I liked the premise of this book. The world that the author built
... morewas cool and magical, yet it was the characters and the story itself that was lacking. Ok, so sometimes the author does not want to give too much away in the first book in a series. So there is that fine line of deciding how much of the plot to giveaway while still trying to keep some mystery for the rest of the series. Yet there was no mystery to be seen. In fact, there was not really much of anything...action, loveable characters or even likeable, magic, and intrigue. All of this seemed to be missing. I got about more than half way through the book before I put it down and realized that the story really was not going anywhere. It was like trying to run through quick sand. You can try and try your hardest but you pretty much will eventually give up and sink. less

The ending was rather abrupt. I can only guess there are plans for a sequel.

A fun, exciting story in a gorgeous setting that feels really unique in YA.
