review 1: Should have been shorter and tighter and less mean spirited. And yet some interesting character sketches of bored, aging narcissists all shoved into one urban neighborhood. If you're interested in depressed, social climbing artsy moms and dads in Brooklyn (and likely elsewhere), you'll find this book amusing at points. It's satirical but it makes you sad for the children of people who become parents for all the wrong reasons. This novel portrays the lives of adults who wanted to grow up to be famous or "special" who didn't know what to do with themselves when they failed and so became crappy parents instead. Some foibles of famous parents also included.
review 2: This book was not at all what I was expecting. For starters, it was way dirtier than I expected fro
... morem chick lit. Not that everyone was having sex (though they sometimes did), but it was all they could think about. Also, no one liked themselves or anyone else and whatever they had, it wasn't enough. Basically the whole book can be summed up as sex and unhappiness, with a side of craaaaaazy. I did read all 400 pages in a few days, though, so it was definitely addicting. Having learned Amy Sohn's newest book follows some of the same characters, I really want to know what happened to them. less

This was a great beach read, even if stuck in the prairie whilst reading it. I still miss NYC.
