Portia Adams Adventures
review 1: Orphaned Portia Adams is left property in London, England, and a guardian to watch over her until she turns 21. The property turns out to be 221b Baker Street, Portia's grandfather turns out to be Dr. John Watson, and the guardian turns out to be .... well, you'll just have to find out by reading this smart bit of detective fiction by Angela Misri. The book is divided into three cases, with the first case primarily an introduction to the main characters. The cases vary considerably in tone and Adams grows with new challenges. Lots of atmosphere, clever turns and well-styled in the manner of the inimitable series by Arthur Conan Doyle. I'm looking forward to more in the series. Nicely done YA and recommended to Sherlock Holmes fans of any age.

... morentertaining read for any age group, Jewel of the Thames is a thought provoking and quick read that keeps you wanting more. The protagonist, Portia Adams, is easy to relate to and admire at the same time. Her inquisitive mind and social awkwardness makes her more real and allows you to really connect with her through her adventures. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to see how Misri continues to develop her protagonist, both intellectually and personally. Strongly recommend this book for older kids, teens and adults. less
