review 1: This book introduces the reader to a dog who isn’t like other dogs. Instead, the little girl is convinced that her dog Biff, likes music and dreams of being a ballerina. However, she is constantly told that “Dogs don’t do ballet”. When the little girl receives tickets for the Royal Ballet, her dog follows her to the show. Disaster strikes during the show as the ballerina trips and falls and her dog seeks the opportunity to prove that dogs can do ballet. The illustrations in this book are fantastic and make it appropriate in any Key Stage 1 classroom. However, the book contains a few words that children of this age may struggle to read independently and would therefore be more appropriate if read to the class by the teacher. This book can be used to ask the children... more questions about any activities/sports they would love to do.
review 2: If you give a dog toe shoes will he learn to ballet dance? Only if he has the desire, evidently. That's what this is all about. Don't give up on your dream. This little pugsly dog followed his little girl to class and even tried to join in, but was shown the door. Did he give up? NOT, when the big ballet company came to town and he was told he couldn't go, did he give up?NOT!So when the prima ballerina fell off the stage who was there to grab the spotlight? Our intrepid pugsly little dog, who got a standing ovation! Of course. Now this would NEVER happen in real life, except for the fact that kids should never give up on their dream...RIGHT? less
