review 1: Ugh, Goodreads. I wrote a whole review, then saw that I was on the hardcover edition and decided I might as well change it. And it took me to a whole new page and erased everything I had written so far. That's not good user experience, schmoes. Anyway, my point was that this book is a standout in the chick lit genre because it has much more interesting plot points, seems well-researched (the many scenes set in different parts of India come off as believable and interesting), and features a codependent protagonist (they all do) whose emotional problems AREN'T ignored and DON'T disappear once she magically finds a man. The characters are all complex, interesting, and relatable. It's funny, fun, and in some ways inspiring. Good show. I found this because it had been mis-shelv... moreed in the kids' area (?!) but I would search out her work on purpose, now.
review 2: This book was actually listed in my "recommendations". This was Anne Cushman's first novel and I am glad I picked it up. The main charachter in this book, a yogini, fell into the job of writting those How To Book for Idiots. Her latest assignment? To write a book entitled "Enlightenment for Idiots." She embarks upon her journey to India to find the answer to what enlightenment is and how to find it. This is not only a novel about enlightenment but also several love stories entertwined therein. It was a really quick read and very entertaining. I hope she is in the process of writing her second novel. The only downside to this story was figuring out the ending a few chapters in. less
