review 1: I thought this book was pretty uneventful. Amanda, the main character, would break up and get together with her loser boyfriend Matt throughout the whole book! Then she got pregnant with his baby and he got pissed at her for keeping it. Amanda had trouble making her own decisions and worried constantly about everyone and everything in her life. She went to ashram after ashram in India and talked with the greatest teachers and she still wouldn't believe what they told her. My favorite characters were Devi Das and Lori. Devi Das was down to earth and very sweet to Amanda, but not romantically. Lori encouraged Amanda to stay away from negative people like Matt but Amanda never listened. I'm really annoyed that Amanda didn't want to be with Tom even when he told her she could ... moremove into his luxurious house and love her and Matt's baby like it was his own. I wanted to know more about the Jacob guy with the twins she was kind of dating at the end of the book.
review 2: I spent the entirety of this book thinking it was a memoir (I clearly hadn't taken into account the author's name). It was only when I reached the back page and the author information that I realised my mistake. I'm on my own sort of spiritual journey at the moment and resonated with a lot of what the main charter said so felt slightly cheated when I realised she was a work of fiction. That said, I soon got over it, and real or fiction, it's a great book that brings up a lot of pertinent questions in an accessible and thoughtful way. less
