review 1: 2.5 starsThis book was like a Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. The first half completely tasted my patience and limits of boredom. 90% of the first half is "told" by Niles. At some point I even started daydreaming that Rylan was in fact mute and that was the reason why he never talked to Niles or anyone else. I was ready to quit this book because it was boring me to death.Then the guys finally pull their heads out of their butts and started talking. Actually Rylan starts talking, like crazy, like doing a complete 180. Rylan turns out to be able to have very deep and completely mature conversations that don't seem befit for a 19 year old guy. Niles is still drowning in his insecurities and needs constant reassurance from Rylan.About Shona. Shona is supposed to be a character ... moreplaying Niles best friend. But Shona is no character. In truth Shona is a plot device to constantly bring Niles and Rylan's issues to the surface so they can work them out. This happens each and every time. So don't be mad at Shona as a character because she really isn't one.Cute cover, mediocre story somewhat poorly executed.
review 2: This book had a very interesting mix of BDSM and normal life. I liked how these two are just kind of working out how the kink should work in their life. There isn't a rigid set up of rules an both of them make mistakes along the way. It really give it a good feeling of reality of how a new couple might stumble along into it. What didn't work for me was the epic mis-communication fail of the entire book. I have NO clue how you can be in a relationship for three years and not know if you are in one. For me this part of the book just left with a "huh?" kind of feeling. I also wasn't too fond of Shona's character that didn't have any other purpose than to sir up drama between the couple. less
