review 1: I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Annie is a smart woman who had many insights that I found helpful myself as a Mormon and a mother. She is what I would call a progressive polygamist. She begins the book as a full-fledged supporter of the practice and leads the reader through some shifts in her perspective as her circumstances and religion change with the times. The only downside to this book is I wish it had more emotion and clarity. I think both of these things are lacking because of the time period in which she lived and wrote. Anyway, bravo to her for raising 10 kids almost alone. She is a hero in my eyes.
review 2: Written by a mother for her children. She wanted them to know about her life as an early Mormon in Utah as well as a polygamist wife. She wrote
... more the book from her journals. I loved it. She was not mean or negative about polygamy but let you know how it affected her, both as a child and as a wife and mother. She took care of herself and her children her whole life. Her father believed in education so she was able to get some education at the early BY Academy. She worked very hard to try and educate her children. Early pioneer life is interesting too. less

Interesting life she had. She surely was a survivor of polygamy. Amazing intellect and wisdom.
