review 1: This graphic novel is amazing because it teaches the readers about Post Traumatic Stress disorder and about the 1982 Lebanon war through visuals and through an intriguing plot. The main character of the story has the same name as one of the two authors, Ari Folman, so it seems as if Ari himself experienced the same events that the character experienced in Lebanon. The author uses first person narrative to create a bigger emotional impact on the readers rather than using 3rd person narrative because that way the reader can empathize with the character and the Lebanon War. I think this graphic novel is very powerful because it gives the reader insight on how stressful and inhumane war can be for the civilians and for the soldiers. Also the novel is an easy read since it's in... more a cartoon format, which means anyone can read it and easily spot the messages that the authors wishes to convey.
review 2: I thoughts the movie was terrific, and the comic reads just like the movie. I saw the movie right before I went to Lebanon, so it was interesting to go through the story again after being there. I think it is such a good story because it doesn't seek to demonize Israelis or Palestinians, as so much media about this region tends to do. It shows the horrors of war in a novel and unique way. I recommend the movie over the comic probably, but definitely check out one or the other. less
