review 1: A freebie short story, this was an absolutely charming take on the Mermaid (mermen) story. Not a 'Little Mermaid' take off, this one felt wholly apart and stands on its own as a fairy tale (tail?). The feeling of the merman, Dylan, being cold and distant felt very new as usually they are all shown to be longing for land. The young Cian who is left holding on for dear life was written with a clear sensitivity. Both characters were engaging and I was left feeling rather happily satisfied with the story and wanting more. Well written and beautifully told...
review 2: On the one hand I now have to admit that I have a merman kink :) and Ms. Pierce got their nature pretty good: cruel and cold like the sea and completely different but if there is a connection betw
... moreeen men and merman then also deep like the ocean - at least that's my idea and that's what I liked about the story but then there are so many loose endings like the question why is Dylan luring the men into the sea and setting them free afterwards, why are they suddenly only sleeping down there while Cian nearly drowned? Wasn't there enough space to show the complex person Dylan is supposed to be between being a dangerous creature and an emotional person? Couldn't help it but in the 2nd part every turn of the story cried for a sequel. So it's: strong start but without a sequel a weak ending. less

2.5 stars. Mermen. Liked the premise, but it didn't pull me in. Too short.
