review 1: I read somewhere that this story could be a cross between Mommy Dearest and Cruel Intentions. I would have to agree. It's dark and twisted. Although this novel isn't highly rated, I found myself completely engrossed in it from beginning to end.It does have a lot of dark humor. I found myself cringing at certain times but eagerly awaiting the outcome. I had to restrain myself from skimming over the next few paragraphs to find out the end result. I think for a first time novel, it's brilliantly written. It's a fast and easy read with an unbelievable twist. I definitely enjoyed reading it.
review 2: If this is the way some rich live, I am content with not having money! The story is about an heiress to the Ballentyne chocolate fortune, Babs Ballentyne. Her unconve
... morentional parenting syle is shocking. She sends nude Christmas cards of her daughter, age 11. She throws over the top parties. Babs is raising her daughter, Bettina, as a single mother. They live in a penthouse in Chicago during the 1980's. The story is told through the eyes of Bettina. Her mother teaches her many lessons about sex. And Bettina tries to get her mother to love her and spend time with her. However, that can involve smoking, drinking and dressing like a much older girl, than the pre-teen she is.Once Bettina heads to prep school, I found it difficult to remember that she is a freshman in high school, not college. This is the first book by this author. I would read future books by her. Although the content is racy, I did manage to read the book in just over 3 days! less
