Especially important for those with aging parents, those concerned with the quality of healthcare for the elderly, and the efforts of the medical community to extend life at any cost rather than the quality of life. So much in this book that is relevant and critical for everyone, no matter their age
review 2: Several years ago I read and enjoyed two of Gawande's books so was interested when I saw this on the best seller list. He writes so well about important if not always pleasant experiences and concerns. The first few chapters seem depressing as he talks about aging and dying from the doctor's perspective. However, hi... mores personal stories and descriptions of better options for living well in the later stages of life and dying well are moving and inspire hope. less
