review 1: I thought that this was a truly beautiful story. I loved the characters and how they met. Alexander's condition prevented him from making any intimate/emotional relationships work. Daniel is an older man and is intrigued by Alexander and doesn't let Alexander's condition throw him off. This story was not about intense drama, but more about how two individuals fall in love regardless of the circumstances life throws in their way. Most of the time, I forgot that this was a story about two men. That's how beautiful this story was. Highly recommended!
review 2: Ok so...how do I start this? This trilogy needs a NOBEL. It was so sweet and I think when you wrote about Alexander's life and his disease you got inspired from reality. Also as a reader my instincts tell me
... morethat Elizabeth and the barmaiden's characters resemble the author's character. Always concerned and caring. This trilogy had an huge impact on me. It was my comeback as a reader after a long time and Chalk Butterfly was the the book I started with first. I was really glad because only a few meet my standards. I mean, you can call me a close-minded person, but I kind of dislike egalitarian same-sex relationships. I don't mean it in a wrong way. Please don't misunderstand but I don't like when a bottom TOPS. For me...a bottom remains a bottom and a top remains a fuckin' TOP till the end. I'm an avid reader of this genere * so please don't consider me an amateur*...but I simply can't accept it, I just hope that's not a problem for you because to tell you the truth I stopped reading your 3rd book when I got at "that" part. The Western world is just not for me. Because of my preference, it's not easy to find what I'm looking for. I either prefer gender-structured same-sex relationships OR age-structured same-sex relationships. To give you a better picture of what I like just think of the pederasty in ancient Greece where couples were formed of a young teenager and an old male. One is small, fragile and shy. The other one big, powerful and dominating. Same in JapanBut anyway, sorry for going overboard.Nonetheless I give THIS trilody 5 stars less
