review 1: Set in 1977, so a bit of a historical fiction, but the time period doesn't play as much into the story, except for the telephone aspect of it. Vinnie's parents get divorced, his mother gets remarried and they move to a more "suburban" area with a new school district, etc. There, Vinnie gets a crush on his next door neighbor, and when he calls her, he panics and gets mistaken for an obsence caller. Instead of forgetting about it, he keeps calling her back, and they start talking. What follows is Vinnie exploring who he is and developing as a person. Fun read.
review 2: This is a quick read for teen readers. Vinnie did not win my heart in the beginning but then he grew on me. His first obscene/anonymous phone call to his neighbor, Patsy, was not one I would want
... moremy son to make or my daughter to receive. However, it made me feel better knowing that Vinnie wasn't proud of himself either. This story is about being a teen and fearing what others are going to think about you while trying to deal with family issues, divorce, moving, new school, etc. Vinnie's voice is clear and his struggles are familiar to many teens. I think high school readers are going to enjoy reading this book. less

It was more of a 1970's version of shop around the corner / you've got mail. But with teenage angst.

A cutesy story of what happens when a dirty prank caller keeps calling.
