review 1: I enjoyed this story quite a bit, though Adam's supposed dark secret never really came out. They talked a little about what his home life had been like, but beyond that we never really were told what exactly he was running from, and he was definitely running from something.I liked that Emily had trauma in her past but had not become borderline catatonic. It seems like every book I read that has a heroine who has gone through what Emily had has the girl completely dead to the world. While that does happen, and I am not at all trying to discount the severity of her situation, it was refreshing to see someone who did not let one horrible event completely shut down her life. She still lived and loved and followed her dreams. It was definitely a nice change.Adam was a sweety, b... moreut I still feel like he is mostly a mystery. Beyond the fact that he is an artist who had a rough home life, I really don't know much about him. There were parts of this book that could have benefited from an editor or a good proofreader. Even had the author just given a manuscript to a friend and asked them to proofread it, I think it would have helped. Most of the mistakes I saw were word choice mix-ups. Spell check would not have caught them because they were real words, just not the correct words. This threw me off a few times because I would be reading along and suddenly come across a sentence that made no sense. Then I would have to stop and reread it a few times to figure out what it was supposed to say. This didn't happen often, but the few times it did were really distracted. Plus, sometimes the same descriptive word and/or verb would be used in back-to-back sentences. This is a pet peeve of mine and something I always to avoid when writing. The immediate repetition kind of grates on me.Also, parts of this book were way over described. It seemed like she was trying to fit in as much flowery language into a single sentence as she could, and she kept describing the same things over and over. A little less would have been good.Overall I enjoyed the story, but having someone else proofread it would have been helpful.3.5/5 Stars
review 2: This story was just okay for me. I feel like this book was rushed on so many levels. There was so much more that could have been added to make this a really enjoyable book. There were definitely good points that happened within the book but I would like to learn more about the situation with Emily and her mom, and also you hear about Adam's father but very briefly. I want details!!!!The book went from Emily being fine, to sad, to okay, to in love in a blink of a freaking eye. This was a short read but definitely took me longer than necessary. I just couldn't get into it.I'm sad to say that this book just didn't do anything for me. less
