review 1: Surprisingly good. Better than most shifter books lately. Developed characters, creative plot and world-building. Kind of cruel and gritty, just like I imagined a world with shifters would be. I really liked Sam and Gus and wanted to hit the other cats and wolves really bad! They were so awful and prejudiced and it made everything more real and believable if a little sad too. Great ending. I still think James earned at least a punch in the nose and I'm disappointed he never got it.PS: I also didn't appreciate all the licking. It was kind of weird. Also really difficult to know if they were in animal or human form. Pretty confusing sometimes.
review 2: This was a great read with a few exceptions. The story reads like you're looking into the life of two people and
... more an assortment of second characters that interesting enough. The main characters are likeable, and well developed. The intimacy of their relationship is smoking hot!The relationship between the two is what made the story go from your run of the mill erotica to an actual story, for which it made the story more of a story and less of a straight smut-fest with were/shifters.For all the praise I've given it, there was still some things I would have loved to see.I really think that the author did an excellent job of mapping out the world in which the shifters lived in. It's interesting to read from a shifters POV, so much so that the humans aren't the norm, matter- of factly they were scarcely mentioned making it a strictly shifter/were/pack read. The one problem that I run into a lot with shifter reads is the same run of the mill borderline that I really think should be crossed. It would be wonderful to read a shifter book with a new take on the whole "pack-Law" crap. It pisses me off to no end to have to hear, "because of this law we will not be able to do this particular thing." it's just infuriating! However, aside from this, the sometimes bland storyline, and the ending that some people won't approve of the book was fairly good. I grieve the fact that shifters don't recover 100% in this world. This book is an okay read. less
