review 1: As a girl/woman who loves to dance but has never had this kind of passion or talent for it, this book was a dream come true. Soledad is not your typical teenage protagonist. She keeps her wits about her around this boy, she even wants space from him. (GASP) She is a strong, beautiful lady who had scars from her past but they do not overwhelm her, they don't drive her. Instead she is driven by this passion that seeps into every page of this fabulous book. I am so happy I grabbed this one off the shelf, and I would recommend it to anyone else who feels passionate about music/dance/the arts, because you will see the most beautiful parts of that love in this book.
review 2: This is a NYRA (Nevada Young Reader Award)nominee. This is really the first one on the nomi
... morenation list that I actually liked - not loved, but I liked it. I enjoyed the fact that the main character is a Cuban American dancer that gets involved in drum and bugle corp. This might seem a bit odd out west here because drum and bugle corps isn't big here but it is around the country. There is a love triangle but it is not typical and ends in an unusual manner. This one I would recommend. less

Loved the ending to this story. I also enjoyed the voice - it captured the young adult attitude.

Very good book for young adults. First Love v. first lust.
