review 1: I love timed pieces and always a little more biased to them than books written in current time about the present. The 1980s and 90s are some of my favorites. This novel takes place in the 80s and as with others, was no exception to me enjoying going back into time! The novel is written from a male’s POV, which is different for NA, reads. Colin, the protagonist narrates in a way that seems like normal conversation. It doesn’t feel like it’s adult telling a story but a young adult (that’s a good thing). To an extent, this reminded me a little of Looking for Alaska. Can’t pinpoint exactly what elements made me think this. I guess it could be the male POV and seeing first love with a female through a males eyes.
review 2: this book was not for me but it was
... more well written and had some good messages in it. i'm a huge beatles fan so i did love that part!there were really only 2 characters i liked in the book...mrs. vesquez and liz. colin had potential but he was just too whiny and weak for me. karl and jasmine were just sh!ts. chester had potential but there wasn't enough of him.there were several good lessons to be learned for young adults and it's a pretty easy read. less
