Nameless Detective

review 1: #35 in the Nameless Detective series. Pronzini lets his protagonist age during the series, which is a viable option and offers some dramatic choices. It is a good thing that the detective doesn't age at the same rate as novel publication though, because he was 50 back in entry #5 in 1977. Now though, 'Nameless' is taking it a bit easier and considers himself semi-retired. He has been farming out some of his work for a while, Jake Runyon came on board sometime around entry #30 and erstwhile receptionist Tamara now has her own PI license. This 2010 entry was the last one I read before going back to the beginning of the canon to read the entries I had missed.Nameless Detective series - An investigation of a former lover leads Tamara to a charity-targeting scam, while Nameless... more' assistance of an elderly woman reveals ugly family agendas and Runyon's search for a bail jumper leads him to a very dysfunctional family. Meanwhile, Nameless has domestic problems when wife Kerry finds cocaine in daughter Emily's room.
review 2: In the beginning a Nameless Detective novel was about the Nameless Detective. However, now only about one third of the book is about Nameless and the rest is divided into chapters dealing with other members of his firm, in particular Tamara and Jake Runyan. I like Nameless and his storyline, though thin, was enjoyable. Unfortunately, I didn't feel the same about Tamara's or Runyan's, thus the low rating. less
