review 1: This review might be a bit biased since I have been a Billy Idol fan since the mid 80's when I was a mousey preteen listening to him as a form of rebellion and an escape from a terrible home life. This book has lots of sex and drugs and Billy Idol doesn't make any excuses for his behavior. It is an ingesting look at the behind the scenes of the making of the music/videos. This shows there is more to Billy Idol than just sex, drugs, and rock n roll. He is actually quite intelligent.
review 2: I love a good rock autobiography. This one grew on me overtime – I started out not liking it, but enjoyed it by the time I finished. Billy's voice sounded authentic, which is a part of these autobiographies I care about the most. As an out-of-control add
... moreict – like the other rock star stories – it made sense that he spent most of the book talking about his drug exploits and struggles. But to contrast that, there was very little about his musical inspirations. He would mention the success of the particular song or album or tour – but nothing that would speak to him as an actual musician. Perhaps he just wasn't one. I've always been lukewarm about his music, perhaps this is why. less
