review 1: My learn-something-new goal for 2014 was the acoustic guitar. Before I started taking lessons, I wanted to begin to understand the mindset of a great guitarist, and, as a lover of country music, I knew Brad Paisley was that. When I discovered his book I was all in.What drew me in was Paisley's relationship with his guitar, that unique bond between a person and an instrument that creates the sound of one's own life. Paisley's relationship with his grandfather who gave him his first guitar revealed again how our paths in life evolve. Not only was the book fascinating as a journey to success, but it's also a treatise on the importance of sustainable relationships, respect, the support of others, and gratitude. Paisley's story is one of creativity and uncompromising values. It ... moreconnects us with art and humanity. I hope to get a good bit of that from my own guitar lessons.
review 2: I got turned on to Brad Paisley’s music a little late in the game – probably sometime in 2007 or 2008. I was surprised at how varied his fan base was, and just really enjoyed his talent and music. So I was excited to jump in to this book about his musical heroes and how they helped influence his life and career. This book is not an autobiography in a literal sense. Brad talks about his musical heroes and how they influenced his life, and some of his own story comes to bare itself through that, and I liked that process. As a musician myself, I enjoyed his songwriting and music business thoughts and advice. Not otherwise being a huge classic country fan, I learned a ton about the history of country music and it’s most famous musicians. While some of his personal stories were entertaining, I’ll say again that this book isn’t told in a tell-all style with backstage stories and things like that. I’d say that musicians would get more of a kick out of this book rather than non-musicians but that isn't to say fans of Brad Paisley won't enjoy it. less
