Suck It Up
review 1: I gave this three stars because I liked the idea that the main character was a normal geek, or what I consider as one. He loved comics and sure did make plenty of references concerning them. There were too many references for my taste though. I liked that he had ideas, ones that were different from those of the "people" he knew, and I also enjoyed that it was different from other vampire books. That's saying a lot because I read a lot of vampire books and love vampires. I did not enjoy that it felt like a rather young book, at least in my opinion. And, though it was a different take on vampires, I found it a bit too predictable. I also didn't care for some of the minor characters. They were just too annoying. And, certain things seemed a bit too far fetched for my tastes... more.] The book in itself was written well, and the main character was easy to relate too. The book was a pretty decent read, just not the best.
review 2: I love all things vampire, so this take on the vampire spin was just mediocre for me. There were some new ideas that I liked: Worldwide Out Day for vampires, a soft-hearted vampire with no bloodlust, and vampires envying mortals for being able to still pursue their dreams. Kind of ho-hum. Not sure if I will grab the sequel or not. I did, however, love and appreciate the artistry of this line so much, I have to share it - "Watching her approach, he remembered that she didn't just walk, she conquered space, and harvested hearts at each step." That line is so vivid and personal. Maybe I will check out the next book... less
