review 1: Ike (whose body is an inkblot) wants to write a story, an incredible story. But he doesn't know what to write about, so he thinks about all the stories he's read and he realizes they all have been printed in their own ink. So what he really needs is his very own ink. He goes on a quest for ingredients and collects a shadow, the feathers of the Booga-bird, even the dark side of the moon, which he gathers after creating his own rocket ship. When he returns, he mixes and boils and distills everything into a small jar, and then begins to write an incredible story.Just a bit like Harold and the Purple Crayon.
review 2: This is a fun, fantastical tale about creative inspiration and the process that an author goes through as he tries to come up with an idea for a ... morestory. The story is whimsical and I had to chuckle at the ways Ike procrastinates - too true! His journey to create the incredible ink is wonderful and humorous. The illustrations are very original and we loved the idea that Ike's body is made from an ink blot - one that is sometimes calm and a nice symmetrical dot, and at other times is wild and out of control, with ink flying everywhere. Overall, we thought this was a very unique and entertaining story and we really enjoyed reading it together. less
