review 1: I agree with the reviewers, this was just a short 80 page introduction to this new series. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great neither. I'm having a real problem with the fact that two grown men belonging to an MC had to rob a liquor store...really? Not even a prospect would be stupid enough to do that, but two fully patched members did? That's just stupidity in its lowest form. I wanted to like Cyn's character and to some extent I did, she was tough and obviously a very loyal friend, what I can't understand is how loyal she was to Hank when she met him like less than a day ago but she was ready to fight for him. There was no indication of love at first sight, its possible but it wasn't there, but she was willing to stab people up for him...weird. Then her verbal commands du... morering sex were also off putting, I'm not a prude, far from it actually, but she just creeped me out with all her talking, Hank was quiet as a church mouse, she was just too much, it was...ewww.The club also showed a lot of loyalty towards Cyn and they barely knew her, she was in town a few months and they gave her more props than they did one of their own brothers, yeah he was a pain in the ass but he was still a brother for many years, she was just a chick that rolled into town and all of a sudden a whole club has mad love and loyalty towards her?Plus this totally ends on a cliffhanger...this was not good enough to end on a cliffhanger just to pay for a second part...that's ridiculous...
review 2: Good start to a new series.I love MC books but I found the first one I didn't like at all yesterday and it made me a little wary starting this and I don't know if it was that or just this book but it took me a while to settle in. Now it starts four years earlier and Derrick and Hank are holding up a liquor store, this seemed odd behaviour for two guys from an MC and I wasn't sure how I was going to like this but once it had switched to present day I settled in to it fine.Cynthia is fairly new in town and she's been introduced to the Steel Riders by Daphne, Derricks girlfriend and she likes it, she likes the club and the guys so she's happy and then Hank walks in and they meet for the first time.I liked Cyn, she's intelligent, strong and not afraid to speak her mind or stand her ground, plus she's loyal, I liked Hank as well and apart from Derrick and Randy, who gives off a bad vibe, everyone else seemed great. As I've said I wasn't keen on the beginning, I also didn't like that the blurb basically told us the plot, we know Derrick is found dead before we start reading yet the book ends with this so that for me was a mistake since even though it's a short book I spent most of it waiting for his death.It's a cliffhanger ending, which I knew only because I'd checked ahead and scanned the blurb for the next book 'Tempered Steel' but even knowing this I was surprised when it finished 89% in.Now this is going to sound contradictory and stupid I know since I love MC books and they're generally dirty and gritty and invariably involve some trading or mention of drugs but I admit I didn't particularly like it when Hank asks Cyn "Want a line of coke?" To which she replies "Wouldn't turn one down" Hank "Do you prefer crystal?" Cyn "No, coke is good......" I know, I know it's crazy, why like these books if I don't like this but I'll admit I didn't like this bit.So in summary, I actually liked this book once it got going, the characters were great and it looks like an interesting new MC series but I didn't like that the blurb told us the end, or the cliffhanger or it finishing 89% in.Will I read the next one 'Tempered' I'm not sure yet. less
