review 1: I listened to the audio version, which Ms. King narrates. It was quite interesting. I'm not as familiar with her music as one might be, and I wished she'd have sung a little bit of the songs she was talking about. It presumes quite the knowledge of her works, while I know only the really big hits. She had an interesting life, and she talks openly about her second husband being abusive, and how hard it was to leave him, and how glad she was that she did. She's a talented and interesting woman.
review 2: I’ve always been fascinated with Carole King ever since I saw her photo on the album cover for “Tapestry”. I found it interesting that she wasn’t discovered. She actually made the rounds of record companies when she was still in her teens and managed to
... more get a record deal at a very young age. She met and married her early writing partner and together they were a prolific team. She glossed over the details of that marriage which was disappointing because I’d hoped to get her perspective, but this is her memoir and she can choose what to focus on. She’s had an amazing and remarkable life and much of the book reflected that. You also realize how much influence she’s had in the music industry and how prolific and talented she is. She seems optimistic and down to earth for someone so successful and she’s candid about the poor choices she’s made. I found the book a bit long, yet enjoyed this captivating and honest memoir.~ less
