review 1: In the middle of a bizarre boom of teenagers discovering that they have the power to turn into a wide variety of spirit animals, our hero tries to stay in the closet about him being one of them, with not a lot of success. One of the differences between fantasy and science fiction is that I don't have a problem with the addition of a single discovery to the world, but it kind of bugs me when there's just a single magical thing in the world and nothing else as in this case. But this is passable young adult stuff.

No rating will be given, as I have not finished the book and thus cannot give an adequate review on the entirety of the piece, but anything marked as DNF or a book I gave up on is usually around the 1-2/5 mark. less

YA. Quite similar to Doctorow's stuff, with shapeshifters instead of computer geeks.
