Boys With Painted Lips
review 1: Sold Into Service: Boys With Painted Lips Part 1 by Charlotte MistryThis is a serial and one that has come as a nice surprise to me, though I’m not sure whether I’m a fan of serials, I would much prefer to read the complete series as a novel. This first one was free and I bought the rest of the series. Charlotte has written a clear opening story for her main character Leah. He has been sold as a petty criminal to pay his debt to society. The criminal has no say if he can’t pay his heavy fine he is sold to whosoever can to do the work that no one in their right mind would never do by choice…mines, oarsmen on ships and so on. Leah, young male and virginal finds him-self in a brothel of sorts. After an experienced member of this establishment, Gaius has been told to p... moreut him through his paces he starts to understand that sexuality and practices come in many varied disguises, levels of pain and pleasure. Gaius introduces him to what he will be expected to do and his best way to conform and endure. Leah gets an introduction to understanding his sexuality is attracted to his same sex, and though in denial and mild shock, he is not as horrified by his introduction to giving and receiving oral ministrations between Gaius and himself as he’d thought. This is only the opener as said and there are 5 more in this series. It is well written, beautifully described and varies between erotic with Gaius, to cruelly and sadistically treated by others, the characters in their roles are plausible and developed well though not necessarily as one would wish. Plot line clear and content warnings for each episode should they be required. If you are a HEA reader I suggest you avoid this/these.Me I'm off to read some of Charlotte’s other stories that interest me. I have rated this as a good 3 - 3.5 star read, and Charlotte looks like being a quality writer.
review 2: I actually purchased the 5 individual shorts - bundle not available which made it a little pricey. It was ok. The story revolved around Leah who was a sympathetic, somewhat innocent character thrown into a brothel to work off this debts. You watch the signs of Leah becoming a broken individual and not knowing what or who to believe. Not my favorite by this author because I like my HEAs or at least some hope at the end. Although Leah is free at the end, it's without his Gaius. less
