review 1: Seven-year-old Myron (Ronnie) is anxious about spending part of the summer away from his parents with his grandparents in the country. His older cousins tease him, but he decides to suck it up and put a positive spin on the daily letters he writes his mother. Over time, he starts feeling more comfortable, and the book ends with his leap from the high diving board despite the fact that he's wearing a very loose bathing costume. The lovely illustrations highlight the appeal of rural life while also provoking a snicker or two as readers imagine the ignominious plight of Ronnie and the actions that bring respect to us. In the end, he never even mailed a single letter to his mother.
review 2: This book was very enjoyable to read. I'm afraid it may never reach its in... moretended audience, since the cover makes it look like it's a girl, and the main character's actually a boy. Also we have it shelved in picture books which are generally for kids six and under, but this one is really more for kids about 8 to 10 years old. That being said many families may enjoy reading it aloud, because it will hold the attention of older kids but have some pictures for the younger kids as well. less
