review 1: A decadent and charming slice of an unusual life. Charlotte had an unusual childhood full of foie gras, glamour, party dresses, and poverty at her mother's restaurant Upstairs at the Pudding in Boston. I love food memoirs, and the writing in this is clear and crisp. I felt for Charlotte who very rarely gets the chance to be a child in the craziness of the restaurant business in the 80s and 90s. Slightly nostalgic, full of odd characters, and totally delicious! Fans of Chocolat, A Handmade Life, and My Berlin Kitchen will eat this up (pun intended).
