review 1: Taylor packs a remarkable quantity of fascinating information into his history of how Star Wars was inspired, created, and won the hearts of its immense fandom. The core of the book is a close look at the making of the original trilogy, but there's reasonable (if much less laudatory) coverage of both the Special Editions and the prequel trilogy and the developments since then (particularly The Clone Wars TV show and Disney's purchase of Lucasfilms). The big omission is that very little is said about the Expanded Universe, and particularly the pre-prequels decade (1991-1999) when Lucas(films) was paying very little attention to it.
review 2: This book tells the whole story and fills in all the holes explaining what could have possibly happened between the sequel
... mores and the prequels to cause such a drastic change in quality. However, easily the best parts of the books were the ones exploring various parts of the fanbase. From explaining the role of the Expanded Universe in keeping Star Wars alive, to the founding of the 501st, to recognizing the importance of online opinions like the Machete Order and Red Letter media, this book doesn't miss anything. less
