review 1: Entertaining read, especially if you (a) can geek out on data or visualizations (b) enjoy OkTrends (OKCupid's blog). Probably not as interesting for those not in (a) or (b), maybe 3 stars for them, but still interesting insights from data about race, gender, and more. Well-written, and fairly insightful, while maintaining and teaching some fairly good data science practices. Turns up a number of interesting insights, and offers some good examples on how to visualize data.
review 2: Worth flipping through for the black / red graphs depicting how we act/think when no one is looking. Beauty as we age, date satisfaction expectations & actuals by attractiveness, the hot girl & white man bonus, and more. Rudder ultimately digresses to a discussion of the collection,
... moreuse, and power of data on a grand scale touching on Justine Sacco, Mitt Romney, and craigslist, which frankly were less interesting than discovering the top 20 words asian men, white women, black men, etc. use to describe themselves, but he has excellent prose and one can easily fly through this book in a few hours. less
