review 1: I was looking forward to reading this book, but quickly found myself disappointed and often confused. The chapters were brief and didn't really offer a smooth transition from one to another. I frequently had to look back at what I had read to ensure that I didn't miss anything of importance. The various relationships were also difficult to keep up with.I, like many others, have a love of mythology and will read the next book. Oftentimes, the first book in a series isn't as strong as the ones that follow and I am more than willing to see how the author continues the series.
review 2: Thanks to R2R for the opportunity to review this story. Christina McKnight did a great job with her debut novel for this series. It was a good multi-layered romance with a dash of G
... morereek mythology and demi-gods thrown in. I wish GR had 1/2 points, because I am rating this 3.5 stars.Lucessa is a strong woman that is still grieving over her recently deceased husband as she tries to get her life together. Imagine her surprise when she learns that the man that has haunted her dreams for years is real and his sole purpose is to protect her from bad guys from a whole other dimension. Add to that the fact that her “deceased” father is the ruler of this other world (Erebos) and the truth about her “deceased” husband and you have an enjoyable tale. Through it all Lucessa did a decent job of rolling with the punches, even when she wasn’t sure if she was going crazy or not.Maxim was loyal to a fault, which made him even more believable. Always hoping his twin, Darius, would be saved, while doing what was necessary to protect Lucessa and Erebos wasn’t always easy, but Maxim did what had to be done.I look forward to seeing what Ms. McKnight has in store for the next installment. less
