review 1: While this book is about the woman who married Jessie James, it is also the story of Jessie James and his older brother, Frank. Zee Mimms fell in love with Jessie James when she was 19 years old. Jessie was a 1st cousin, and 2 years younger than she. I found the story fascinating since it was based on fact, and I was given the opportunity to see another side of the brothers--one with which we are not so familiar. Before the end of the novel, you almost feel you know Jessie, his wife and children, and his brother. This makes the ending you know is coming hard to read. A great book, and I'm glad I read it!
review 2: I enjoyed this historical novel by Cindi Myers. She really brought to life the era of Jesse James in a vivid tapestry. I wanted to empathize mor
... moree with Zee, Jesse's wife, and I probably would have if I'd read this back in my idealistic, romantized twenties. Today, I'm a bit more cynical. at times, I wanted to shake Zee and scream, "What's WRONG with you! He kills people! Those jewels he presents you belong to someone else!" Still, I felt Zee's heartbreak and devastation when Jesse is killed. My favorite scene in the book is the touching, bittersweet one when Jesse plays in the snow with his family. All in all, an enjoyable trip back into the wild, wild west. less
