review 1: 5 stars is not enough for this series. It was my most EPIC read of 2014. The writing was brilliant. Both books were so captivating, I found myself needing a drink when Emma or David did. Even with a fairly well written book, I will speed read, skip a paragraph here and there of repeatedness, not with this one. I didn't want to skip a single letter. And found myself reading paragraphs again just because of how the writer told me that part of the story. It's just dark enough to question your own sanity, it's just hot enough to need a shot of makers. And it's a story that you have not read before. I sure hope Claire Wallis stays on the fiction train a little while longer.
review 2: 3.5 to 4 complicated stars! I have been waiting to find out what happened with
... moreDavid and Emma since May. I really wanted to know how this story was going to play out. David and Emma left us with an epic cliffhanger that is resolved within the first chapter and then we get David's backstory. I liked reading from his point of view at least the parts of how much he loved Emma and his realization and growth within the scope of the story. I really did not like getting to know how he ended up killing several woman and how he felt about it afterward. Such a paradox, a hot guy with a bad childhood and questionable income sources finds a broken woman and helps her heal and escape her awful family. She in return helps him overcome his mother's suicide. They each push the absolute limits of sanity and passion to redeem themselves and each other. Emma and David's story ends the only way that makes sense but I will warn you it was very unsatisfying. All that emotional turmoil and suspense leads to a let down. Emma finally finds her love, her ability to know David and understand him and his deep and devastating love for her and then boom, the end. Matt is a major character in this story and I needed more than his unresolved ending. He is a better friend and support to Emma and David than any family member they had between them. Matt needs to have his story finished, but I'm not certain I can read anymore about Emma or David. less

Five stars because it had me rooting for the redemption of a serial killer. Simply mind blowing.

2.5-3 stars...first 8 chapters are great and then the rest of the book just fell flat for me.
