review 1: I knew when I purchased this book that it was part of a series so I waited to read it until closer to the date the next book would be releasing. I am kicking myself for waiting so long! Breaking Kate is the first book I have read from D. Kelly but certainly won't be the last.I was hooked from the prologue. I couldn't help but fall for the sweet couple. Kate has such a big heart even though she has been through so much in her young life. Michael, I really wanted to like him but I just couldn't. He took the hardships life handed him and used them to hurt himself and those around him.The story follows Kate as she gets out and tries to start living her life again. She has buried herself in school, work and volunteering since the blow Michael handed to her. With much help and p... morerodding from her best friends Jess and Connor, she goes to a party and meets Daniel. Sweet, sweet Daniel. He is every girls dream; sweet, honest and sexy. He is also no stranger to heartbreak, just getting out of a bad relationship that left him wounded. Daniel and Kate instantly fall for one another. The connection is deep and meaningful. The cast of secondary characters in this book really sets it apart. You can tell the bond that they all have with each other is genuine and deep. They are all there for one another. Even if they don't agree with their choices, they tell them so but support them the best they can. This coupled with the blooming relationship between Jess and Connor adds another gripping dimension to the story. As the couple grows together, and life events unfold around them, they are spiraling towards disaster. Michael wants Kate back and Daniel will do anything to keep the love of his life. Little do the friends know that they are in love with the same girl. Kate has a long overdue come to the light moment with her father. She decides that she needs to confess her secrets to Michael. It all comes to a head at their friends engagement party. As Kate flees the party, trouble from both Daniel and Michael's past follows her to drop another bombshell on her. Kate makes a hard decision that effects everyone involved. The big question remains, who will she choose? I'm hoping for Daniel but only time will tell. I can't wait for the next installment in this series to see what happens next in the crazy love square.
review 2: I was beyond shocked at how much I was drawn into this story. I was asked if I would like to read this story for the author for an honest review and I'm so happy I agreed to read it. I knew absolutely nothing about it before hand, as I like to usually read books blindly without reading blurbs or reviews. Sometimes I get the best surprises this way. This book truly kept me guessing and I devoured it. But I have to say some of the ways Kate describes how much people mean to her was a little unbelievable. For instance one of her close friends is described as being her soul keeper? But overall it was a very good book. Katherine starts off happy, she has everything she could possibly want in life, looks, money and a man who worships the ground she walks on, but she is estranged from her father who is her only living family member. So she only has a handful of people in her life who she thinks of as family. But all this changes one night when Michaels father passes away and his mother believes Katherine and her father have played a roll in his death Michael is devastated but becomes convinced his mother is right and he pushes the love of his life away. Michel becomes a man whore to try and push his pain away. For 3 years Katherine who now goes by the name of Kate is only just learning to live without pain after her heartbreaking break up with Michel. She didn't only loose Michel, but she lost his mother and father and their baby she was carrying, but she couldn't reach out to Michael, she only had her best friend for support and her friends aunt. But Kate learns to love again after 3 years and meets Daniel. They fall in love fast and hard, but unbeknown to either of them their lives are going to become complicated as Daniels family have become very close to Michael, who now is known as mike. He's apart of Daniels family and Daniel and mike see each other as brothers. but it's clear that Daniel is in love with Kate, but Daniel also knows Mike wants her back Mike has finally accepted he was wrong all those years ago and is ready to fight for his soul mate. Daniel has been giving him advice on how to try to reconcile his relationship with Katherine as well. But as mike has never met Kate it's a shock to them all when they all meet for the first time. Kate believes she can't come between brothers and sacrifices her relationship with Daniel for family. I will certainly read the next book. :) less
