review 1: Solid meh. I picked up this one because I liked the cover, the title appealed to me from my own therapy history, and the DFW blurb didn’t hurt either. Touching and well written, but that’s about the best I can say. Another reviewer mentioned that by the end they “couldn't decide whether I should feel cheated or give the writer points for unpredictability, or both” and I couldn’t agree more. I felt as if I waited around 300 pages for something to happen and when it eventually did I wasn’t sure how to feel about it not meeting my own expectations but I did feel horribly depressed. I probably wouldn’t recommend this to anyone else and not certain where to categorize this among my own books.
review 2: It is wonderful and then it just ends. Think... more "Daria" and meets 28 Days. The Roaring Orchard School for Troubled Teens is such a fucked up place, but really it is not more fucked up than most places. It's just got that end of the line feel. Actually it doesn't end, it just stops. I loved most of it. It made me more tolerant of my kid. The adults in this book are all just so wrong. Unsettling. Very funny. Sometimes. less
